The four kinds of vinyl, which one fits your room
"Vinyl flooring" covers four very different products. We'll match the right one to your room during the in-home consultation.
- Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP), looks like hardwood, 100% waterproof, best for whole homes
- Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT), looks like stone or ceramic, grouted or ungrouted, best for kitchens and baths
- Sheet vinyl, large rolls with seamless installation, best for laundry rooms and small baths
- Forbo Marmoleum, natural linoleum, bacteriostatic, popular in healthcare and eco-conscious homes
Where vinyl outperforms hardwood and tile
Vinyl is one of the few flooring types you can put anywhere in the home with confidence. Hardwood swells when it gets wet, a real concern with Columbus's humid summers. Tile cracks when something heavy drops. Carpet stains. Vinyl shrugs all of it off, and it's softer underfoot than tile, warmer than stone, and quieter than laminate.
It also installs over almost any subfloor (concrete, plywood, even existing vinyl or tile in some cases), which means lower demo costs and faster project timelines.
Professional installation
Vinyl looks deceptively simple to install, but the details that separate a great job from a sloppy one, flat subfloors, full-perimeter expansion gaps, custom-matched stair nosings, proper transition strips, all come from craft. Our crews handle every step including baseboard removal/reinstall, transitions, and disposal of your existing floor. Vinyl Flooring - frequently asked questions
Yes, all the LVP, LVT, and sheet vinyl we sell is 100% waterproof. You can mop it, spill on it, and install it in basements and bathrooms without issue.
LVP is waterproof; laminate is not. LVP is softer and quieter underfoot. Laminate is slightly more scratch-resistant on the surface. For most rooms, LVP wins.
Often yes, if the grout lines aren't too deep and the tile is solidly bonded. We'll assess during the in-home estimate and either install directly or skim-coat to level the surface first.
Quality LVP with a UV-protected wear layer holds its color for decades. Cheaper builder-grade vinyl in a south-facing room can fade in a few years, one reason we don't sell the bottom of the market.
